ARMENIA – Etchmiadzin Cathedral, OPENING CEREMONY of the permanent exhibition of artwork “Revelation” donated by the owner Dr. V. A. to the Holy See of Etchmiadzin. The cathedral is considered in Armenia as our Vatican and is the first church of Christianity, built in 301 A.D. The artwork has been framed with anti-reflective and anti-burglary glass and will become part of the museum’s treasures. Among the most precious relics kept in the building are the following sacred objects: – The Holy Lance of Antioch, identified as the Lance of Longinus that pierced Christ; – Fragments of wood believed to be part of Noah’s Ark, which rested on Mount Ararat; – Various relics belonging to the holy apostles Peter, Andrew, and Jude Thaddeus; – The right hand of Saint Gregory, which over the centuries followed the Catholics in their various residences, as a symbol of authority.
The moment of opening the box and inauguration.
Etchmiadzin Cathedral Museum, with Father Asoghik Karapetyan, Director of the Museums and Historical Archive at the Holy See of Etchmiadzin, receives the donation from Dr. V. A., which will be installed inside the cathedral museum. This artwork will be included among the treasures of the museum, where we find the relics of Saint Gregory the Illuminator, venerated as a saint by the Catholic Church, the Coptic Church, and the Orthodox Church, which commemorates him on September 30th. Father Karapetyan says that this artwork has a strong spiritual theme, and when people observe it, they will feel the power of the spirit (translation by Dr. Aida Babayan, guide and translator).
Etchmiadzin Cathedral Museum, the artist Carlo Alberto Perillo describes the symbolic content of the artwork “Revelation.” The artwork was purchased by Mr. V. A., of Armenian origin, specifically to be donated to the Etchmiadzin Cathedral, driven by a strong sense of belonging to the Armenian people. Given its profound symbolic significance, the artwork will be placed inside the Cathedral once its restoration, currently underway, is completed.
